Bloomsburg Softball Sweeps Doubleheader with West Chester

BLOOMSBURG- Tara Reed (Williamsport/ Williamsport) went 5-6 in two games to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to a doubleheader sweep against West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Friday. The Huskies took game one 6-1, and won game two 8-0 in five innings.

In game one, Bloomsburg would take a 1-0 lead in the first when Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) tripled in Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport /Jersey Shore). In the second, Bloomsburg would add to that lead as Lazorka and Reed both drove in runs to take a 4-0 advantage.

Bloomsburg would add two more in the sixth inning as Shavaun Fisher (Coplay /Allentown Central Catholic) singled to score Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont /Southern Columbia), followed by a Tiff Corliss double that scored Fisher. Ashley Lynn (Riverside /Danville) picked up her 19th win of the season, striking out nine in seven innings of work.

In game two, the Huskies broke out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Mauro, Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg / Central Columbia) and Jess Rosin (Brooklyn, NY /James Madison) all doubled and drove in a run to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead, and Stacy Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) doubled and drove in two more. The Huskies added three more in the bottom of the 4th when Neyhard singled to score Casey Massimini (Downingtown /Downingtown West), followed by a Rosin double scoring Neyhard and Mandy Koch (Dauphin /Central Dauphin).

Sheelin Fisher (Coplay /Allentown Central Catholic) picked up her 14th win of the season on the mound. The game was called in the 5th inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.

With the win, the Huskies improve their record to 42-7, 17-5 in the PSAC East.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Millersville for their regular-season finale. The action gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
